Work We’re Proud of: Breast Cancer Awareness

October 2, 2020 | Creative
Woman at Breast Cancer Awareness Event

October has become a familiar wash of pink. Pink ribbons, cookies and cupcakes frosted pink for bake sales, pink clothing worn on Fridays, pink sports jerseys for game days and so on, all in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. We are tempted to ask ourselves, “Aren’t most people aware of breast cancer?”

The facts and stats are all around us.

  • One in eight women in the United States will develop breast cancer in her lifetime.
  • Breast cancer is the 2nd most common cancer in American women, behind skin cancer.
  • Breast cancer is the 2nd most common cause of death, from cancer, in women in the United States.

At Ten Adams, 82% of our talented team members are women. A high percentage of our client’s Marketing Departments are headed by female executives. We needed to challenge ourselves to see past the facts and stats of breast cancer and look at the faces of the mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts and best girlfriends that our clients serve. Despite the prevalence of pink, 28% of women aged 50 to 74 years still have not had a mammogram within the past 2 years, according to a study by the National Cancer Institute.

We provided fresh ideas to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month and believed by personalizing breast health and screenings, we could spur awareness into action.

“Enjoy More Tomorrows”

Time is a critical component of successful cancer treatment. We wanted to inspire a sense of urgency in women to schedule their mammogram. Using a combination of print, out of home and digital tactics, we stressed a message of “time.” By getting a mammogram “today” cancer can be detected earlier increasing the rate of survival and making sure mothers, daughters and sisters can “enjoy more tomorrows.”

“Everyday Victories”

Surviving breast cancer is a great victory. We wanted to celebrate all the little victories leading up to becoming cancer-free, like catching cancer early, and finding a health care partner to treat and eliminate it. The Everyday Victories campaign is about the small feats that women conquer to achieve their best health and empowering them to stay healthy.

“If it’s Cancer, See Us First”

It’s the intimate moments that make our lives special and cancer can take those moments away. We matched imagery that focused on the moments that are possible after cancer survivorship and partnered them with powerful, differentiating statements to create a strong and simple call to action.
